I am also facing this problem. I just bought a Rog Strix G615JHR on 5th August 2025 with an i7 14650hx and an rtx 5050, it idles at about 55 to 60 degree Celsius and whenever i open valorant or even any other games like gta v or mw3 or battlefield 6 the temp goes up to 95 sometimes even 97 but this happens only when i put the laptop in turbo mode but the gpu temp always stay around 60 to 75 degrees even with ultra settings in the above mentioned games. Asus said this temperature is fine they did not find any heating issue with the laptop and closed the service request. Asus said this laptop has a liquid metal thermal compound and the fans run at 5800rpm max. Is this an issue with the processor?
Below are the temps during Battlefield 6 and during idle respectively

Hi Shuichi,
Thank you for posting in our Community. Seeing CPU temps in the mid to high 90s can be worrying, especially on a new system. It’s worth noting that the Intel® Core™ i7-14650HX is designed to operate safely at temperatures up to 100°C under heavy workloads. That said, we’d still like to review your case more closely to make sure the system is behaving as expected and not throttling unnecessarily. To help us better assess the situation, could you please confirm the following details?
- Which BIOS version and Intel® drivers (especially chipset and ME firmware) are currently installed?
- At idle (55–60°C), are there any applications running in the background (antivirus scans, updates, etc.)?
- Have you tested the same games in “Performance” or “Balanced” mode instead of “Turbo”? If so, what temps do you see?
- When the CPU reaches 95–97°C, does it maintain performance, or do you notice throttling (FPS drops, reduced CPU frequency)?
Your observation that the GPU remains in the 60–75°C range is a good sign, it suggests the cooling system is working as intended for the GPU. We just want to ensure the CPU is also within spec under load.
Have a nice day!

Hey,
Thanks for reaching out! My current BIOS version is: American Megatrends International, LLC. G615JHR.306, 6/10/2025
And my igpu has the driver version: 32.0.101.6554
At idle nothing runs maybe Nvidia container, windows defender, microsoft office click to run nothing else as such and the temperature is 55-56 degree C at silent mode with power connected. same goes for performance and turbo mode. Now when I launch a game be it GTA V or Valorant, the temperature shots up immeidately to 75 to 80 and then in game it is stuck at 95 sometimes 97 and HwInfo says max temp 100 and Core thermal throttling: Yes I'll attach a screenshot down below. This all happens in performance and turbo modes. and no I don't see a lack of performance. The performance is the same it does not degrade it maintains performance even at 95 to 97 degrees. Now in silent mode the performance does go down a tiny bit in valorant like from 550fps to 410 or 450fps, but the fan does not spin to its full capacity and the cpu temp also goes to 85 to 87. it doesn't touch 90 in silent mode. The GPU remains the same yes.
One more thing when the mode changes from igpu to dgpu, in windows settings it shows that i have two displays 1 and 2, however 2 is my main display and I cant access display 1. My friend told me its the mux switch it does that and after a few restarts it becomes normal. Idk what is this here's a screenshot as well. This laptop is way too costly for me and I'm worried that I might have gotten a defective product and Asus is saying the laptop is not overheating but if I want then they can change the liquid metal thermal compound in this laptop. I intend to play a fair amount of AAA titles and run some LLMs as well I hope I can solve this heating issue. I don't want my laptops cpu to get scorched.
Thank you.

Hello Shuichi,
Thank you for the detailed information. The temperatures you’re seeing (95–97°C under load, 55–60°C idle) are within the normal operating range for the Intel® Core™ i7-14650HX. This CPU is designed to run safely up to 100°C, and since you’re not experiencing performance loss, your system is working as intended. For lower temps, you can use Performance or Silent mode instead of Turbo, ensure good airflow, or use a cooling pad. A repaste isn’t necessary unless the system throttles heavily. Additionally, the bottom line is that your processor is not defective. Intel® Turbo Boost Technology temporarily increases processor frequency to handle peak workloads, but does not maintain those turbo frequencies continuously. Processor usage and temperatures vary depending on the applications running. When usage is high, it is normal for processor temperatures to rise. All Intel® processors include built-in thermal protection. If the temperature exceeds safe limits, the processor will automatically reduce performance (throttle) or, if necessary, shut down to prevent damage. The temperatures you’re seeing fall within Intel’s operating specifications, and ASUS’s assessment is correct. While 95°C looks high, it is safe for this processor under load. You can continue gaming and running demanding applications without concern. You may also visit this article for more information to know whether your laptop is overheating.
For details on the expected operating temperature range and to report any unusual behavior, please contact your system manufacturer.
Please don’t hesitate to let me know if you need any further assistance.

Hey Von,
Thanks for helping me! Well I'm not sure if it will work or not but I have been using a cooling pad for the last 3 years. It has 6 fans at 600rpm max i guess and moreover, the temperature reaches 100 in MINECRAFT!! Like how and yes my last max temperature was 102 while running GTA v at max settings without ray tracing. At silent mode now I see the temperature go down but the performance goes down as well, I can see stutters here and there even in Minecraft it stutters in silent mode. In the next mode (aka: PERFORMANCE MODE) the temperature goes from 85 to 95 and 97 in vanilla Minecraft. When I use shaders like BSL or Derivative shaders, the temperature showed 102 max, core thermal throttling: yes and yes the fps drops to 45 sometimes from 120. I play Minecraft for more than 5 or 7 hours and constant temperature of 102 or even 95 or 97 for 7 hours is not good for the processor I guess. In performance mode the fans still do not spin to max speed, I have to go to manual mode and then maximize the fan speed to 5800rpm. Still I have booked a service window again lets see what it can do.
Thanks!

Hello Shuichi,
Thank you for your patience. While temperature spikes during gaming can be expected, it is not normal for the processor to consistently reach its maximum operating temperature of 100°C during extended use. The Intel® Core™ i7-14650HX processor can technically operate at these levels; however, sustained gaming temperatures in the range of 95–102°C indicate a thermal management issue that should be addressed.
For additional reference, you may review these Intel® support articles:
Since BIOS updates and system settings adjustments did not resolve the issue, we recommend reaching out to ASUS support once more to request warranty service and ensure proper thermal management for your system.
In the meantime, I will close this inquiry now. If you need further assistance, please submit a new question as this thread will no longer be monitored.
Best regards,
Von M.
