i7 14700kf thermal throttling while doing nothing

Hello everyone,
I have a system with an i7 14700kf and the latest windows 11 install. Until yesterday everything was fine, even with some regular load (gaming, etc.). Today I left the pc on desktop for a couple hours and when I came back it was throttling hard. I tried to reboot and after 10 minutes on chrome it happened again: 100 °C with 2 or 3 % CPU utilisation. Then the PC turned off on its own. Yesterday I was forced to turn off the isolated core option from windows defender to connect my phone using Honor suite. Since I assumed that was the issue, I uninstalled everything correlated and turned back on the isolated core option but the problem persists. Now I'm stuck where I cannot even reinstall from scratch windows because it goes into throttling mid procedure (in recovery mode).

Hi ArchieD,
thank you for your support and interest. After some more troubleshooting I just find out the issue is (fortunately) not CPU correlated. Basically my 2 month old aio pump consistently gave up after some minutes of activity leaving the processor without cooling. It was particularly difficult to diagnose because there was no sign of thermal creep or anything else, but I guess this is good experience for the future. Hope the CPU didn't suffer too much after hitting tj max a bunch of times.
