Hello.

I own an i7-3520m on my LENOVO ideapad Z400 and, under heavy load, it reaches temperatures up to 87ºC and remains in that range (83ºC~87ºC).

I would like to know if running in that temperature range for long periods of time is safe.

Hi vssenduser,

I am sorry to hear you are having problems with your system but let me help you.

Please note that the Intel® processors have been designed and created with high quality components to work under heavy task. The temperature you mention seems a bit higher than expected but it is still under the safe range. If you noticed the temperatures goes higher than 92-93c it may be a good idea to turn off the system.

Since you have an OEM, my best recommendation is to run a BIOs update for your system or contacting the manufacture directly for them to check the Fan in your system to make sure there is no dust on it that can be causing the issue.
