i7-6500U not performing too well

I have the following laptop:

HP ENVY m7-n109dx Core i7-6500U, 16GB, 17.3 Full HD Touchscreen, Win 10 Laptop with Nvidia 940M 2 GB

I saw that it said it is possible to get to 3.1 ghz. How do I do this to see if it will run any faster. It seems like it lags on some older games.

Yes, the processor model Core™ i7-6500U can go up to 3.1Ghz, this will depend on the computer BIOS.

 

I would recommend checking for Max. Turbo Frequency at BIOS level and enable it. This feature will increase processor speed dynamically.
