I have a two month old desktop system that I built and installed Windows 7 Professional on. When I leave the computer on for an extended period of time (say overnight), I find that when I come back to it, it has turned off or rebooted and I sometimes get a message saying that Windows did not shut down properly.
There shouldn't be anything going on with the system during these times other than a scheduled nightly backup to an external hard drive. I am using SyncToy for this.
I have done memory and hard disk checks and there were no problems or errors reported. A frequent troubleshooter on the Microsoft Answers site told me that, based on the minidump files, my processor has an internal timer issue and needs to be replaced. Intel Support told me that I need to test the processor out in a different system before it can be replaced.
I have attached a link to the dump files. Before I go and start changing out parts, I was hoping someone could look at these and help me figure out what is going on. It would be greatly appreciated! Below you will find my system specs as well as the error messages I was presented with.

You should look at forums for issues with e-SATA. That is one reason I use strictly internal HDs.

Of 3 nearly identical systems, I have one that loses 12 hours occasionally. Even if I did this during installation it should stay. Windows updates occasionally reset things like folder options so a registry change may correct it. Perhaps Win 7 is still buggy. Otherwise it would help to know if you use a UPS with sleep, hibernate and apparently wake timers. That has been an issue for me but I have yet to know if upgrading the UPS has fixed it.

Sorry I replied to the last message so I missed some of your problem. I also get some messages that are to be ignored about improper shutdown. They seem to be related to thermal management and odd CPU temps reported but I have little reason to believe anything is wrong since the main change is from Vista 64 to Win 7 64. The BIOS has options concerning whether reboot should be enabled on errors you may consider. I hate to do that myself since I'm concerned it won't boot at all then.

Me again. My systems are DG45ID but early on the original BIOS had problems with the timer losing minutes which is simple to check. Fixes were available but by the time I found they didn't work, a new BIOS pretty much fixed it. Later BIOS updates cured the problem completely. I also have Virtual PC with virtualization enabled which is a whole new can of worms now.

I'm not using a UPS, nor do I have the system set to sleep or hibernate.
A person on another forum suggested that this is an internal timer issue with my CPU. Is that what you were referring to in your last post?

As far as I know the only clock is in the BIOS chip with 12V items having different clock frequency settings. It would be best if you could determine if there actually was an improper shutdown. If you had a shutdown like mine during backup some folders were omitted and one incomplete. Do you get false messages, not related to I/O? The main problem reported with external drives is they are not recognized after shutdown, requiring reinstallation, unlike typical USB devices. e-SATA also seems to be compatible at this time only for one time use. These are BIOS/OS related. Just when I believed I could blame my voltage reports (12V on 3.3V line) on my UPS I find they continue without it. Some Fung Shue may be in order but my worst problems seem related to my latest BIOS.
