should i wait for intel 5th generation desktop processors

I need to upgrade my system, i have purchased a Z97 board, but heard that 5th generation CPU are coming. I am interested in i5.

Please tell me should i wait for it and when can will it be available in India.

At this point I regret to say there is no information about when the 5th generation for Desktop system will be released.

According to a recently leaked roadmap the 5th gen Broadwell CPU for desktop should arrive somewehere in the second quarter this year.

So it will probably take about another 2 to 5 months for 5th gen cpu's.

I am afraid to say there will not be any 5th Gen CPU's that will work in his Z97 system. The 5th Gen CPU's are BGA only so they have to be soldered to the motherboard.

The BGA ones are the ones like core m and what was recently introducés for notebooks/ultrabooks (u processor). If you look at the image in my previous post you will see broadwell (5th gen) for LGA after haswell refresh (s processor). These are the 14nm chips that will fit in the z97 boards. It is skylake that comes in the second half of this year that will need a new socket and motherboard.

I did not wait and bought a i5 4690k . It's superb fast and I don't think I need 5th gen or more speed than this.

I got update from Intel on twitter saying that 5th gen desktop processors may be available within 2-3 months.
