Anyone knows how 2 years of posts disappeared?

Hi everyone,

I don't know what surprised me the most. That 2 years of valuable information completely dissapeared from this forum, or that there's no explanation in this regard anywhere. I've tried to contact the admin at forumadmin@niosforum.com, but my messages keep bouncing back. So, I guess all I can do is post this message and hope that someone has any information and is willing to share.

I apologize if someone feels this should be in to the General Discussion forum, but let me explain why I'm posting it here:

- this is the place where I sent almost all of my messages so far

- this is the place I know most of the active people

- this part of the forum is *very* active

- (I guess) the most valuable posts here were written in the last 2 years -- the rest is almost too old to be usable

- on the entire internet, this is (was) the place to go for questions about nios2-uClinux. The wiki is excellent for getting-started and hands-on tutorials, but if you want your questions answered you have to come in here.

So, it would be great if anyone could please share any information on things like:

- what happened?

- why can't the last two years of information be recovered?

- will it happen again?

- can we get the information back? (it's still there somewhere, even if in Google's cache...)

- should we move to a more reliable forum?

tip: I've been using this trick to read some of the vanished messages: do a Google search for some of the words you remember that were on a given topic (like: niosforum fifoed_avalon_uart), and then click the cached hyperlinks on the results list. As for me, I'm printing everything on paper from now on. ;)

Hope to hear from you all on this matter.

Cheers,

Ricardo.

I second that, unbelievable...

How did you get this information? Thanks for sharing, btw!

Yes it was a disk crash and the host service had no valid backups. The only image on the server that could be found was two years old. After the incident of no backups we switched to a different hosting service that provides daily backups of the system.

Hey KenH, thanks for the info! Glad to hear that we won't lose more than one day of posts from now on!

Thanks again,

Ricardo.

PS: can we have our reputation points back? ;)
