Nios Optimization settings.

I am trying to get the code optimization running in the Nios IDE. 

 

I have code that runs successfully at -O0 - although some what slowly. 

 

I have tried to apply the other optimization levels and this breaks the code. 

 

What I want to be able to do is apply different optimization levels to different bits of the code. It looks like I should be able to do using the file properties from the IDE. 

I can set the project optimization level from the project properties and a different level for a specific file in the File Properties. 

 

But the Project properties seems to override the File properties. 

 

Anybody got any ideas on how to do this ?
