Writing Software Drivers with Nios II/e

As to my understanding, the Nios II/e processor does not support the 31-bit cache bypass in order to access the peripherals of the Nios II system.

Does this mean that the software drivers that I write in my C-Code (IE. IORD, IOWR) will not be recognized by the Nios II/e?

If this is the case, is there any way that I can get around this limitation other than choosing another processor core?

--- or is this an entire mis-interpretation I'm getting?
