64 bit Linux Installation error on Core i3

Hi,

I recently bought Hp G62-B45SE Intel core i3 64 bit Notebook.I tried to install Ububtu 64 bit and other 64 bit distros , but soon after booting the Installation CD the computer gives an error that the given distribution requires an AMD 64 bit processor and instead an Intel 686 cpu was found. Its really strange since the 2 CPUs AMD 64 and Intel use more or less the same subset of 64 bit instruction set.Has anyone faced the same problem with other brands having Core i3.

Any help will be appreciated.

The error message is "This kernel requires an x86-64 CPU,but only detected an i686 CPU. Unable to boot -please use a kernel appropriate for your CPU."

Thank you.
