Can you put a i7 core processor into a hp pentium laptop

For an upgrade processor, it must be socket, chipset, and BIOS. Only HP can tell you what processors their bios supports.

That laptop is older than the i5 and i7 processorsIt uses the older Core 2 Duo family of processors. On most of those models if it has a Celeron or Pentium processor it ... if you put a higher procesor on it may not run right even if it fits in the ... Core i5 and i3 models use a different system board to the Pentium ...

It is not a situation of it may or may not run. It needs to be supported by the laptop bios. If the bios does not support the processor, then do not attempt it. You could damage the processor, or the laptop, or both.

There are also wattage and cooling concerns.

 

So, if the laptop manufacturer does not specifically support the processor, do not attempt to use it.
