Morning,
I recently builded a new pc, but I have a strange problem.
Basically if I start the computer, wait until the OS is fully loaded, turn off the pc, wait around 10 seconds, turn it on, then it could happen that the cpu temp spike up for no reason. It doesn't happen every time, let say with an average of 1 in 5. To fix this I have to reset the pc multiple times, mean that sometimes I have to restart even 5 times or more until the problem goes away by itself, or let it rest for a couple of hours. However this is annoying because if I just turn off and on the pc I may get this problem.
In the attached files you can see in screenshot of both the bios and OS, the temperature reach the max, also in the OS, you can notice that the load is at 0%.
Since the cpu reach max temp, sometimes the pc doesn't even let me complete the boot, giving me a temperature warning.
What could be the cause? Faulty CPU? Motherboard?
My motherboard is a Asus Z790 Tuf and I use Arctic Liquid Freezer II 420 AIO cooler. I updated the motherboard firmware and nothing, contacted Asus support and they didn't know how to help me, saying I should open a RMA. I tried using the Intel Processor Diagnostic Tool, but every test pass.
I don't know if I should just try and ask for a new motherboard, but I'm not even entirely sure it's the motherboard fault.

Hello, @Thommy12
Thank you for posting on the Intel® communities. I will do the best I can to help you.
- Have you tried the steps of the article Overheating Symptoms and Troubleshooting for Intel® Boxed Processors? If not, make sure of these first.
- Is it possible for you to try another cooler or fan heatsink?
- If the issue persists after the previous steps, please attach the reports of these utilities to have more information about your system and test your processor:
Intel® Extreme Tuning Utility (Intel® XTU)
Note: Click on the "Stress Test" tab and "Start Testing" and then, attach a complete screenshot.
Intel® System Support Utility for Windows.
Note: Make sure to mark the box that says "everything" before pressing the Scan button. After that, click on "Next>" and select "Save" and then, attach the .txt file.
Best regards,

Hi, @Jocelyn_Intel,
Thank you for your help.
- Yes, I already tried the steps of the article Overheating Symptoms and Troubleshooting for Intel® Boxed Processors, but it didn't solved my problem.
- Right now I'm unable to try another cooler, but in a week or two a person with a pc similar to mine will be able to help me try it.
- I attached all the reports of the utilities, I hope I did everything correctly. Let me know if you need something else.

Hello, @Thommy12
Thank you for all the information and reports provided.
Please be aware the processor temperatures in our tools are okay and expected, as per the processor specifications, Intel doesn't validate third-party tools. If you use third-party software to measure the temperature or the BIOS readings, contact the software vendor to ensure the software is validated to work with your processor.
Since the high temperatures you are seeing are from the BIOS and the warning alert comes from the motherboard, we recommend you to verify with your System Manufacturer or continue with a possible replacement, as the processor is working correctly according to our tools, that are validated.
As additional information, the article below talks about processor temperatures FAQs, even if the processor reaches high temperatures, it's not necessarily bad or unexpected. Please check it out: Information about Temperature for Intel® Processors
