I7 7700K Heating Problem hits 100 degres several times when rendering videos

So like two month ago i bought and COMPLETLY NEW PC, it works really good but i have a problem with the CPU temperatures

I noticed that when i'm rendering videos (thats why i took an I7 7700K and not the 7600k) the heat gets crazy high

I didn't changed anything (voltage ect)

I have a ASUS STRIX Z270E GAMING and a DARK ROG PRO 3 COOLER MASTER

I've seen several posts that says that it's normal if i goes high temps UNTIL IT DON'T GOES AT 100 C which it do when i'm rendering a video.

Hello Glitchexe,

Thank you for contacting the Intel community.

I will appreciate if you could reply with the following information:

What application or where are you seeing this temperature?

Are you getting and overheating warnings or does your system shut down?

What operating system are you using?

Would you please post you memory part number?

Are you using the onboard video or a video card?

Do you have the latest BIOS version for your motherboard? If not, I suggest getting the latest BIOS version from your computer manufacturer website and to update the BIOS.

You should be able to get that support here:

https://www.asus.com/us/ROG-Republic-Of-Gamers/ROG-STRIX-Z270E-GAMING/ https://www.asus.com/us/ROG-Republic-Of-Gamers/ROG-STRIX-Z270E-GAMING/

NOTE: This link is being offered for your convenience and should not be viewed as an endorsement by Intel of the content, products, or services offered there.

Note: Intel® Processors have built-in thermal protection. If the processor gets too hot, the built-in protection shuts down the processor. If your computer is not over-clocked, and is running under the design specifications, the built-in protection can help prevent damage to your system.

Download http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/processors/000005567.html Intel® Processor Diagnostic Tool to test if your processor is working correctly.

Regards,

Ivan.

Hi, thanks for awnsering.

I'm using HWmonitor to see the heat of my CPU

And my BIOS is up to date.

I ran the Intel Processor Diagnostic Tool without issues.

Note that i never overclocked my CPU but it runs at 4.5Ghz Sometimes when i'm rendering

Also should i make a stress test like OCCT ?

Hello Glitchexe,

That frequency is fine, 4.50 GHz when rendering, you can check this processor specifications here:

http://ark.intel.com/products/97129/Intel-Core-i7-7700K-Processor-8M-Cache-up-to-4_50-GHz http://ark.intel.com/products/97129/Intel-Core-i7-7700K-Processor-8M-Cache-up-to-4_50-GHz

Now, does you system cashes when you experience this temperature or does your system performance go down, is slow or shuts down?

Usually, if you are experiencing high temperature the computer shuts down or reboots if it senses an overheating issue to prevent damage to components, The BIOS usually reports if a thermal event has occurred. If you don't get any of these warnings you should be ok.

Under normal working conditions, if all fans are functioning and the CPU still overheats, replace the thermal interface material (TIM) between the heatsink and processor. The TIM eventually hardens on most systems.

Purchase professional grade TIM and replace it yourself. Carefully follow all instructions and warnings. See http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/processors/000005576.html How to apply Thermal Interface Material (TIM).

CautionIf you purchased your computer from a computer manufacturer such as Gateway* or Dell*, you might void your warranty by opening your computer case. Contact your system manufacturer if you are experiencing any of the warning signs listed above.

Best regards,

Ivan.

Thanks for your awnsers Ivan,

When i hits 100 degres it does not shut down or slows down but the cpu should do it if it hits 100 degres so maybe it's just the thermal sensor ?

would you recommend me to replace my huge aircooling by some water cooling ?

Under normal condition it stay between 35-45 degres celsius so it's probably not the TIM eventhough i have bought an extra in case i need it.

To isolate the issue it will be great to test different heat sink but it will be up to you if you prefer to buy water cooling, you can try a liquid cooler and if the problem persists and you are not happy with it, you can http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/contact-support.html# @15 contact support to ask for warranty validation options.

You are more than welcome!

And yes, this processor can work at 100°C without issue, you will be fine.
