In wake of the massive Intel security flaw many OSes will now leave the kernel spaces out of the TLB which will result in 30%-50% performance hit. OUCH!!!
Intel should design a new CPU arch where one core is dedicated to kernel and others are user apps. Then create an inter-core interrupt or something (SMP extension). These kernel only core(s) could have reduced instruction sets or something. Maybe 2 kernel cores, 4 user cores, etc. If unsupported OS runs on CPU then the kernel cores are just unseen.
