There are marks on my new Intel processor. Manufacturing signs or simply used?

Today I got my brand new i7 4930 processor.

After unpacking the box, I found some rectangular scratches (or smudges) on the top cover of my "brand new" i7 processor.

Is this normal?

Are those smudges signs of Intel's manufacturing process or did someone sold me a used processor for new (where this processor already had a cooling block installed on top of it)?

Intel® boxed products are always new and any mark on the processor when the unit is boxed is a manufacturing sign.

When you got the processor was it in a seal boxed? Where did you purchase it?

The box was somehow a bit damaged.

I tried to remove the marks by using a soft cloth, but the scratches stayed.

What kind of manufacturing signs could those scratches be?

Could it be that this one had a cooling block attached to it?

During the manufacturing process of processors, random units are tested to measure and confirm the quality and performance of the units. These marks on this processor are marks of this process and there is nothing to worry about it.

In the case that you bought a new processor but the box was not seal I recommend you contacting the place of purchase and confirm with them why the processor box was open.
