hey guys,
I built my PC a month ago, and been monitoring the temps for a while now and now I see that P-core #4 and #5 have like around 15 celsius degree higher than other P-Cores.
One thing to keep in mind, when I was installing my AIO LS720S Zero Dark, my finger came a little bit on the side of the thermal paste and slightly pushed it from its place (Not fully removed)
I even tried using Gigabyte F6d "Intel Default Settings" BIOS update and still P-core #4 fluctuates.
Can someone tell me what could be causing it or if its normal?, like it reaches high Maximums but the average is very close to other normal P-cores.
For example when I run Apex Legends, my P-Core #4 goes to 90 while other cores are like 10-15 degress less than the P core #4 or 5 or smth.
I Run "Ultimate performance power plan"
Also 1 more thing, Sometimes on HWINFO, I see Core thermal throttling on Maximum "YES" even though None of the cores reached TjMax, shown in a picture.
Full PC Specs:
i9 14900K
Z790 AORUS ELITE X AX
Gigabyte 4070 Super Gaming OC
T-Force Delta 32GB 7200MHz CL34
Lian Li 216 case.
WD SN850x 1TB

Hello phaze,
Thank you for posting in Intel community Forum.
For us to further check this, please help provide the following details:
1. Do you notice this behavior while idle, gaming, or browsing?
2. Have you experienced any crashes or errors (BSOD)?
3. Are you using the Intel® Extreme Memory Profile (Intel® XMP)?
4. Can you share the temperature reading inside the BIOS?
If you have questions, please let us know. Thank you.
Best regards,

Hey Michael,
1. I noticed this a few times when PC was idle (Windows could've possibly done something)
- When browsing temperature is around 68-75
- When gaming Temp is around 85-90
2. No, never experienced any crashes.
3. Yes 7200Mhz T-Force Delta 32GB (2x16) CL34
4. In BIOS the CPU shows between 32-36
I have High Performance Power plan right now instead of Ultimate performance.
Also, when I launch Apex Legends from Steam, sometimes the maximum reaches 95-98, sometimes 78-85. but then temp goes back to normal afterwards.

Hey,
I did the stress test by using the tool you provided, It passed and everything is fine.
But again I check HWmonitor, temps are fine for Stress test, but it shows that core thermal throttling on Maximum coloumn is "YES"
even though nothing reached TjMax.

Hello phaze,
Thank you for the update.
Let me gather additional information.
- Are you using default settings inside the BIOS?
- What is the brand and model of the processor cooling?
- Can you run the processor diagnostic tool for us to check the processor. Here is the link:

If you have questions, please let us know. Thank you.

Hello phaze,
Thank you for the update.
Intel Processor Diagnostic tool is not a stress test app. It should be safe to run this app to check your processor.
I will wait for your next update.
If you have questions, please let us know. Thank you.

Hello phaze,
Thank you for the update.
Base on the temperature reading inside the BIOS and Processor Diagnostic tool, everything is running fine.
However, I will still have this checked by our Engineers. Kindly help generate the SSU logs of your system as our additional data:
Kindly download the utility here:

Hello phaze,
Thank you for patiently waiting for our update.
Upon checking all the details that you provided, here is our feedback.
Upon reviewing the temperature data, it appears to be within the expected norms, and the Intel Processor Diagnostic Tool (IPDT) has yielded a PASS result. If you need further information regarding processor temperatures, you may find the articles provided to be quite informative.
- What is the Difference Between Core and Package Temperature?
- Seeing Temperature Spikes when Playing Games on Systems with Intel® Core™ Processors
- How to Know the Idle Temperature of Intel® Processor
- Does Intel Provide Typical Temperature Ranges for Each Processor?
- Is It Bad If My Intel® Processor Frequently Approaches or Reaches Its Maximum Temperature?
- What Is the Maximum Operating Temperature of My Intel® Processor?
- Information about Temperature for Intel® Processors
And also, we suggest conducting an Intel Extreme Tuning Utility (XTU) test, checking the temperature reading inXTU, and comparing the results with those from Hwinfo64. This comparison is crucial as it helps ensure that the overall temperature remains within the acceptable range, thereby preventing any potential issues.
Lastly, we want to assure that if the overall temperature remains within the specified limits the system should operate without any complications.
If you have questions, please let us know. Thank you.

Hey,
Yeah, I think I will get used to it sometimes rapidly reaching around 95 and goes back to normal, so it should be fine as in the links you provided.
So I guess its a normal thing specially for i9 14900K, as long as the averages are around 60s after around an hour of gaming, so my CPU should be fine and no thermal issues nor bad AIO contact issue.
Thank you so much

Hello phaze,
Thank you for understanding.
You can just continue to monitor the processor for performance issue.
As for the temperature, this is normal.
We will close this inquiry for now. .
If you need further assistance, please post a new question as this thread will no longer be monitored.
Thank you and have a great day.
