What is the function of cores 4, 5 and 7 on a i7-11800H? Thermal throttling and how to solve it.

Namaste! Hey there! Season's greetings. I hope you are doing great. I'll try to be brief.

Problem: Cores 4, 5, and 7 of my i7-11800H show as thermal throttling on my undervolted i7-11800H (BIOS tweaks like disabling turbo on those + Throttlestop).

Cores info from HWiNFOCores info from HWiNFO

Question: What do they specifically do? I was unable to find any useful information about it, and I've gotten to the point where I briefly browsed the results in their datasheets page, as well as these results and this file in particular. I might be able to find a solution by understanding what they do, and I am more than open to learning from your input.

Feel free to inquire additional information to better assist me.

Dhanyavad! Thank you very much, have an awesome day!

PS: I already did the basics like checking the thermal paste / etc., the other ones are not thermal throttling, and I think that the failsafe temp I modified (less than 89 degrees celsius) is achievable for basic tasks. If it serves for context, laptop is an MSI Sword 15 A11UD. Besides that, and as shown on the screenshot, I have lowered with Throttlestop the On Demand Clock modulation to reduce the possibility of more heat being generated.

Hello alex_golostos,

Good day.

Each core is designed to handle a portion of the processing load, allowing for efficient multitasking and improved performance in multi-threaded applications. Cores 4, 5, and 7, like the other cores, contribute to the overall processing power of the CPU. They do not have specific, unique functions but work in tandem with the other cores to manage and execute tasks.

Since you are facing thermal throttling, therefore, you may follow this helpful reference article below:

What Is Throttling and How Can It Be Resolved? Article.

It's also best to contact your system manufacturer support team if the issue persists, so they can help properly diagnosed if the issue is caused by a failing component.

Let me know if you have further questions or concerns.

Best regards,
