Will a PCI-e 3.0 slot still work with a 2nd generation i7?

Hello everyone,

Recently I got myself a new motherboard with a PCI-e 3.0 slot on it. Unfortunately I still have a second generation i7 (2600) which means I cannot use the capacity of the slot, since it requires a 3rd generation processor.

My question is: will the slot still work if I put a graphics card in it? For example, if I put an MSI Radeon R9 390x into it, is it just going to be a little slower? Or is it not going to work at all? In that case I guess I'll have to buy a new processor first.

In this case for the Intel® Core™ i7-2600 Processor specification is that it will support PCI Express Revision 2.0, here you can check the specs http://ark.intel.com/products/52213/Intel-Core-i7-2600-Processor-8M-Cache-up-to-3_80-GHz# @specifications ARK | Intel® Core™ i7-2600 Processor (8M Cache, up to 3.80 GHz); however you will be able to run it on your motherboard but it will run under the parameters of PCI Express 2.0 instead of the 3.0.
