Hey there, I have an http://ark.intel.com/products/46473/Intel-Core-i3-540-Processor-4M-Cache-3_06-GHz Intel® Core™ i3-540 Processor (4M Cache, 3.06 GHz) on my Gateway DX4840-03e and I got a http://ark.intel.com/products/48500/Intel-Core-i7-880-Processor-8M-Cache-3_06-GHz Intel® Core™ i7-880 Processor (8M Cache, 3.06 GHz) with the intention to upgrade. They are both the same socket type although they differ in TDP. When I tried to install the new processor I noticed the power button flash on the tower as well as a beeping sound. Yet no signal to the monitor. Is this a compatibility issue? Is it even possible for me to upgrade processors in this case?

Hello Jua83100n,
The http://ark.intel.com/products/46473/Intel-Core-i3-540-Processor-4M-Cache-3_06-GHz Intel® Core™ i3-540 Processor comes with Intel® HD Graphics therefore there is not needed to use a video card.
In the other hand, the http://ark.intel.com/products/46473/Intel-Core-i3-540-Processor-4M-Cache-3_06-GHz Intel® Core™ i7-880 Processor does not have integrated graphics so you would need to add a video card to your system. That could be the reason why there is no video.

I recommend you contact the motherboard's manufacture so they can let you know if the I7 processor is under the list of supported processors.
Regards.
