Hi, I have a HP Pavilion ab166us with a 2.2gHz 5th generation Intel Core i3-5020U Dual Core. It has two ram memory slots but one of them does not work, so I'm working only with 4gb. Can I put an 8gb ram memory in the slot that works? Some people told me that I should ask first because maybe the processor may not work. Thank you!

You will have to ask HP this question. They are responsible for the BIOS in this PC. The original maximum was 16GB and this was presumed to be 4x4GB (i.e. two 4GB DIMMs per memory channel). Whether they originally or subsequently updated the BIOS' Memory Reference Code to support 8GB DIMMs is the question they need to answer.
