i7 6800K VT-d locks up system

I would like to enable VT-d on this system but having some issues.

I currently have Windows 10 Enterprise loaded on this system (fully updated). If I turn on VT-d, the system won't boot. When I try to reinstall Windows, with it enabled, it won't let me finish the installation (it hangs and locks up).

Please let me know what other information would be helpful to troubleshoot.

  • Sabertooth TUF X99 (Bios versions 3301)
  • Intel i7-6800K @ 3.40Ghz
  • Crucial 32GB
  • Samsung 950 Pro 512GB PCIe NVMe M.2 Internal SSD

Hello TKTech:

In regard to your inquiry, from our side we can confirm that the processor supports VT-d, on the following link you will be able to check that, please check the "Advanced Technologies" tab:

http://ark.intel.com/products/94189/Intel-Core-i7-6800K-Processor-15M-Cache-up-to-3_60-GHz http://ark.intel.com/products/94189/Intel-Core-i7-6800K-Processor-15M-Cache-up-to-3_60-GHz

There might be a setting or an option in the BIOS that needs to be enable in order to use VT-d, to verify and confirm that please get in contact directly with ASUS.

Also, a BIOS update will be another option to try, specially if you are using Windows® 10, on the link below you will see the different BIOS versions available for your motherboard, the latest is BIOS 3505:

ASUS's phone number: 1 812-282-2787

Any further questions, please let me know.

Alberto,

Thank you. I have had this mobo since release and the last two bios updates didn't mention a fix for VT-d but I'll try updating to be sure. The BIOS does have an option to turn on VT-d but that is what starts my crashing and lockup issue. Are you suggesting that another option needs to be enabled along with VT-d to get it working?

I started a thread on the ASUS forums but no responses yet. Thanks again for your help.

Hello TKTech:

You are welcome.

Yes, the BIOS update is always a good option to try, please confirm the information on the BIOS released notes with ASUS as well.

The option to enable the VT-d feature might be different depending on the motherboard that you are using. The BIOS is always different, so depending of the manufacturer of it, in this case ASUS, it might have different options to enable and disable some features.

So, since you started a thread on ASUS's forums, at this point the best thing to do will be to wait for their response.

Please let me know the results and the information provided by them.

Any questions, please let me know.

Regards

Alberto
