1.5V PCML to CML interface

Hello, I need to interface the TX serdes output (ALTGX) of a cyclone IV GX device to the input of a NB7L111M device https://www.onsemi.com/pub/collateral/nb7l111m-d.pdf

My problem is that serdes out is 1.5V PCML standard while the differential driver NB7L111M accepts CML input.

Do I have to connect output of cyclone ALTGX to NB7L111M input as show in figure 18 of NB7L111M datasheet?

Any help is appreciated

The short answer is yes. That is how you need to connect it up.

Refer to Altera's "the evolution of high-speed transceiver technology (https://www.altera.com/content/dam/altera-www/global/en_us/pdfs/literature/wp/wp_hs_transceiver.pdf)" white paper. The P in PCML is for Pseudo. Altera haven't implemented the CML driver exactly as per the CML specification. Hence the new interface acronym. However, they're designed to interoperate.

Cheers,

Alex
