ARRIA V slower than STRATIX V????

Hi all,

I have been using stratix V for a module and my input to reg data delays were around 5ns. Recently i have started using ARRIA V with same module and even with same qsf at speed grade 5_h4 the data delay has shooted upto 7.2ns for the same path which accounted for 5ns in stratix v.

The cell delays dont hav much impact but yes the IC delays have doubled in some cases..

Can anybody guide me some facts about arria V regarding the speed of the this family..

Is arria V slower than stratix V or am i going wrong somewhere.

1 thing would like to add is that the time to analysis and synthesis and fitter is nearly half of what was consumed in stratix v...

ARRIA V compiles and places 2 times faster than stratix v as far as my module with same settings are concerned

Stratix are the top end devices and are the biggest, hence why they are faster and take longer to route. Arria is the middle family and is pretty cheap compared to statix. Have a look at the data sheet for timing information.

But this margin also depends on routing parameters... Check fitter settings, try different seeds, etc.

this makes sense, Stratix V is built on the high performance process and Arria V is on the low power process

in addition, the timing models for Arria V are much newer than Stratix V, so i'd expect some improvement in the next couple software releases

Still except for the cheapness i dont really understand the advantage of using ARRIA V..

Cheapness is a big factor! Why spend $5000 on a stratix 5 when all you need is a $500 arria V (or even $200 on a cyclone!)

Arria also uses much less power too.

Actually even ARRIA II is faster than ARRIA V since II is built on HP and V is built on LP.

Yup lethenstrom i tried to differentiate between ARRIA II and V and yes Arria V is slower than II..but then what is so special about this release...i guess power consumption is a factor for Arria V..do you know any other factors which might win votes for ARRIA V?

Pros Arria V vs II: Power consumption, price, faster transceivers

Cons Arria V vs II: Slower fabric, Slower DSP blocks?

Any I forgot?
