Cyclone 3 Booting from SDCARD in SPI Mode

Hello All,

This may or may not be an obvious question: if the Cyclone 3 is happy booting from an EPCS serial flash, an SPI device, what is to stop it from booting from an sdcard in spi mode? Has anyone tried this? I know that there is a whole opencores project dedicated to sdcard booting with a Cyclone 2 target, but the complexity in that project might be redundant since the C3 controls an SPI slave by itself...

Any insight greatly appreciated.
