Cyclone V SoC General Purpose I/O

I am thinking about buying Cyclone V SoC development kit. I cannot figure out does it have general purpose I/O pins, connected to some outer connector. In reference manual HSMC cards are mentioned, now I do not know whether this board has standard I/O pins connected to some connector.

Hi. Did you figure out the general purpose I/O pins on the SoC kit? I'm trying to understand the same. I need to stream 2-bit input data and I can't decide which port (HSMC?) to use. An suggestions are welcome.

No I did not solve it.

The Cyclone V Soc kit comes with an HSMC Debug Header module, which you can use to access standard I/O pins.

The HSMC Debug Header can also be used with the SocKit, but it is not included with the kit.

Hi,

I recommend to read through this thread:

http://www.alteraforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2262

You can use a small "HSMC Debug Header" add on board.

Moreover, there is now released a new board by Terasic called DE1-SoC Board (Cyclone V SoC), which has 2x20 GPIO expansion headers.

It seems that both links you gave bring me to same location. So is the thing functioning this way? You take "HSMC Debug Header" as additional board and through that you can access GPIO pins?

HSMC Debug Header is exactly what I needed. Thanks for your suggestions!

I did not understand one part of your answer. Is this HSMC Debug Header Module coming inside the kit or not? First you said that kit is coming with module, and then in the second sentence you mentioned that module is not included with the kit.

Dear tariku,

If you buy the Altera Cyclone V SoC Development Kit you will get 3 boards:

- Cyclone V SoC development board

- Debug header breakout board high -speed mezzanine card (HSMC). **

- Loop-back daughtercard HSMC

See the list at: http://www.altera.com/products/devkits/altera/kit-cyclone-v-soc.html

or

read on page 5, the Kit Features:

http://www.altera.com/literature/ug/ug_cv_soc_dev_kit.pdf

I hope this help in your decision.

Note:

other Cyclone V SoC boards, e.g Macnica, EBV SocRates, and Arrow-Terasic are not include the HSMC add-on boards.
