I2S datastream simple, but fast conversion

Dear All,

I have experience with various micro controllers, but close to zero with CPLDs and FPGAs. Now I'm faced with a task to convert I2S data stream to PCM. Unfortunately no ready IC can do the job. The clock can go up to almost 100MHz. Low output clock jitter is the most important.

Chip price is not important since only a few pieces needed. Easy and flexible development, small and low power package is much more important. I need just a few I/O pins. If I can avoid BGA that is important, but can do BGA also if I have to.

I decided to buy a prototype board, but I do not know which one. At the moment looking at these

But I do not know if CPLD or FPGA would be better.

Can you please advise?

Thanks,

Gabor Jordan

Of the two boards you mention I'd recommend the MAX 10. It has newer technology, and includes Arduino headers which give you access to lots of I/O options.

As to the question of FPGA vs CPLD, it's a matter of what project you have in mind. You can't say one vs the other is better in general, that's why both are made.
