Initializing Altera megacore RAMs using $readmem

I am using VCS and Altera simulation libraries. My source code has Altera Megacore RAMs instantiated. How do I force values into the RAMs using $readmem?  

Note: I do not want to provide the memory initialization file while creating the Megacore. I want to initialize from my testbench.
