PCI Compiler Licensing

Hi all, 

 

I currently have a single fixed Altera license that I purchased in 2010 and used with Quartus II 10.0 and NIOS II 10.0. That license did not include PCI Compiler - I know this because every time I build with the pci_mt32 mega function I get a time limited sof file. In 2010 the PCI Compiler component required a seperate license. In 2010 I did not require this component, but I do now. I have a new PC and I am planning to purchase a new Altera license (fixed-single) which I'm told includes Quartus II 12.0, NIOS II 12.0 and all PCI Compiler mega functions.  

 

So my question is: can I use my new license to acquire the PCI Compiler component for the old Quartus II 10.0 version? I want to use this version instead of the Quartus II 12.0 version because I prefer SOPC Builder to QSys. With this new license will I be able to download a fresh copy of Quartus II 10.0, NIOS II 10.0 and the PCI Compiler without the time limited restrictions? Or am I stuck with Quartus II 12.0 if I want to use the PCI Compiler mega functions? I hope thats clear. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

With a new license you can use any version of Quartus/IP that came before the license's expiration date. So you can use Quartus 10 with a new license you buy now. 

AFAIK SOPC Builder is still in Quartus II 12.0, it should be the last Quartus version that includes SOPC builder.

Thank you for the response. What about PCI Compiler? If I get a new license will I be able to use the pci_mt32 mega function with Quartus II 10.0 without the time limited restriction?

You should ask your distributor for a confirmation, but the license for the PCI compiler hasn't changed since Quartus 10 then the same license should work for both.

I've been playing with the trial version of Quartus II 12.0 and as you said the SOPC Builder is there. Thanks for the heads up!
