Relative comparison between Cyclone iii , Stratix iii and Stratix iv

Hello everyone, 

 

Can any one help me drawing out a relative comparison in between the above mentioned three FPGAs in terms of architecture.. 

(Which causes a change in the method of synthesis in Quartus) 

 

Or you can provide me with some important docs for that which point to the line of differences 

 

Plz reply asap.. :)

hi ashish, 

 

that's a pretty broad question. cost is probably the first thing to look at when comparing cyclone to stratix. ;) 

 

there are probably differences in every category. differences in dsp. differences in luts. differences in high speed io. differences in block memory... 

 

in some applications (and implementation styles) you can port seamlessly from one architecture to another. in others you might have to make some significant changes.

Hi, 

 

the Cyclone devices are the low cost family and the Stratix devices the high-end family of Altera FPGA's. 

 

The decision which FPGA you use should be defined by specifying your requirements. 

Question like how many I/O do you need, do you need a serial IF, do you need a lot of 

Multipliers .... are in the first step more important, then looking to the low level stuff like inputs of the LUT's of the FPGA's.  

 

Define your requirements and then look into the datasheets of the FPGA's and choose the one which fits best to your needs.
