Stratix III FPGA Configuration with MT25QL256 Flash

Hello,

I am considering using a Micron MT25QL256 SPI flash instead of older EPCS/EPCQ devices, which are obsolete. The Intel documentation lists MT25QL256 as supported, but it is unclear whether Stratix III is officially supported. Can MT25QL256 be used by connecting it to the dedicated configuration pins (ASDO, DATA, NCSO, DCLK) of Stratix III? If not, is it feasible to connect MT25QL256 to general I/O pins and implement a custom SPI interface instead? Are there any application notes, design guidelines, or recommended methods from Intel for using third-party or CFI-compliant SPI flash with Stratix III?

Thank you.
