Temperature sensing diode in Stratix IV GX

Hi,

Does someone know well about the TSD(temperature sensing diode) in Stratix IV GX?

The TSD with internal ADC was supported from Quartus 9.1, but the documentation is not very clear for me.

The Stratix IV GX handbook says,

StratixIV devices can either monitor its die temperature with the internal TSD with built-in ADC circuitry or the external TSD with an external temperature sensor. This allows you to control the air flow to the device.

Does this say that Stratix IV GX has two TSD, internal and external? With using the internal TSD, you don't need to connect TEMPDIODEP/N at all?

Thanks,

Yes, the most recent handbook version suggests the existence of two diodes. This would be the only meaningful design in my opinion, because external connections (I think, any) are the most serious issue in temperature sensing diode operation, due to coupled noise.
