UART Access in Altera Cyclone V DE1 Board

Greetings.

As the UART module is connected to the HPS side of the FPGA. Is there anyway to access the UART peripheral from the FPGA side using verilog language without the use of NIOS II. (More precisely, can i write my own verilog module to transmit some bytes to the PC via UART interface?)

Any assistance in this regard will be highly appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

Hi,
the question can be answered in two regards.
1. Can you implement UART function in HDL? Yes, there are many code examples on the internet.
2. Can the FPGA UART use dedicated HPS UART pins? Not in Cyclone V SoC. In so far FT232 on DE1 SoC board can only connect to HPS UART.
