USB Blaster driver fails to install on windows 8.1 (64bit)

Dear All:

I am having a difficult time trying to get the usb blaster to install in my system in order to run programs on the board. I have not been successful and its becoming frustrating. I tried manually installing it but I kept getting "windows could not find driver software for our device".

Is it ok to select a compatible device that is already installed? Or is there a different work around?

Thanks.

I just setup USB blaster on Win 8.1 not long ago. Can't remember how I did it exactly, but did not encounter difficulty installing the driver. And SOF download works afterwards.

Did you follow the instructions at, http://www.altera.com/download/drivers/usb-blaster/dri-usb-blaster-vista.html ?

I tried to follow all the instructions, however I did not see the "found new hardware dialogue box". So I tried other tricks to install it but no luck so far.

The drivers you need are in the quartus/drivers directory of a full Quartus install or a programmer install.

If you are having problems I suggest getting things to look right in the device manager first, then plug in a board and use jtagconfig / programmer window to get that working.

I think Altera does not support this for windows 8.1 because I have tried making all the updates on windows to allow the usb blaster to work but still no luck
