Hi, When will Altera (QuartusII) support the new VHDL-2008 standard? Thanks, Devas

I have had replies from Altera that they should start supporting some features of VHDL 2008 in Q9.1, which is roadmapped for a November release. Shame really, as theres some useful bits I would like to use, but I guess they will have to be worked around for now.

You should be able to use some features of VHDL 2008 in modelsim AE already though.

can't wait for block comments and native fixed point package support. i'm sure i'll learn many other features i'll wonder how i ever lived without. :D

Dont get your hopes up. I was told back in January that it would be supported in Q9 when it was released in march, only for it to be pushed back 7 months!

I think the biggest change will be the native fixed point support, but you can use this already. Other big changes will be "dont cares" in case statements and unconstrained array elements in type declarations (ie. unconstrained in 2 dimensions!).

unconstrained arrays will be very useful. don't cares in case statements is interesting, certainly more intuitive.
