I've got two dev boards with the following part numbers:

5SGXMA7K2F40C2N

5SGXEA7K2F40C3WN

I've been scanning PDFs and trying to use my forum/google foo but I can't seem to find the difference between the two. Any ideas ? (the "M" vs "E" is the one I'm most curious about)

Go to the Stratix V documentation page;

http://www.altera.com/literature/lit-stratix-v.jsp

Click on the Stratix V Device Overview

http://www.altera.com/literature/hb/stratix-v/stx5_51001.pdf

Go to page 19 and "increase your foo" :)

M : Mainstream

E : Extended

Dave

I was reading that just as you replied. Thanks though! I kind of expected to be able to search for specific parts in a matrix similar to how they have their packaging/thermal.

The Stratix V are still new (yeah, I know, Altera is advertising their 10 series), so I'd recommend looking for available part numbers first, and then decoding them. Its unlikely you will be able to create a valid part number based on the data sheet and then actually find it available (unless you're really lucky). I find the simplest way to find the "most popular" part is to look at the parts used on the evaluation kits.
