dp83640 ethernet PHY chip Register configuration

hiii.. 

 

can any one please tell how to configure or use registers of dp83640 PHY chip.. is it to be done through some software program or anything else.. i am using this chip in fiber mode.. also this is going to be interfaced with wiznet 5300 MAC chip which is going to be interfaced with cyclone FPGA.. 

 

please help.. its urgent..

Have you looked through the wealth of information available from TI on the DP83640? - see here (http://www.ti.com/product/dp83640/technicaldocuments). Configuration is done over the Serial Management Interface - the MDC & MDIO pins. 

 

Have you considered Altera's own Triple-speed MAC IP for interfacing to the Phy? Do away with the external MAC you mentioned.

yes I have gone through the information available on TI.. but still i am not able to understand.. i want to use PHY control register to set particular bits.. as well as other registers.. 

is it necessary to use these registers..? can data signals be transferred without configuring these registers..? 

if not then how to use these registers..?? 

please do help regarding this.. i am very much confused..
