what exactly do want to know ?

installation of quartus 9.1 & nios ide 7.2 ?

or software design with nios ide 7.2 but fpga is done with quartus 9.1 ?

or designing your application on both version ?

a nios fpga design created with 7.2 can be opened with 9.1 (updated) and recompiled.

as i do not use the ide (now) i can't tell you if the ide itself is compatibel and can (well i guess it can) open a software project done with 7.2 but i guess there the ide has changed a bit so downgrading could be a problem, but i am not shure here ...

okay the fpga image is done with quartus 9.1 but why don't you do your application with nios ide 9.1 as well ?

if i am right, up to quartus 7.2 the sopc builder created *.ptf files that decribed the sopc nios design and starting with that version the *.sopcinfo file was introduced as well as *.tcl instead of *.ptf for ip's. so ptf is depricated.

so if your design is done in the current quartus 9.1 i am quite unshure if the old ptf is updated / created as well or if you need to explicitly tell the sopc builder to generate these files. nios 7.2 is based on ptf if i am right (too long ago, too many versions since then :-) )

sorry i can't help you more with the ide as i am more working with the hardware. but as far as i remember you can create new ide projects or import existings projects. you need to point the ide to your ptf that describes your sopc project and then you can select for example the hello world and choose the smal version. i remember that was quite easy to do.

if you upgrade from 7.2 to 9.1 to recompile your fpga i would open the sopc builder (9.1) regenerate the sopc project and then recompile with quartus 9.1 so your project is uptodate

but regarding your questions about ide 9.1 maybe somebody who works with this ide should answer, sorry i can't help you with that. try to open the ide, and as far as i see mostly it is selfexplaining how to import an existing project and to upgrade it from an older version. try and error :-) but don't forget to backup ... you never know :-)
