After downloading and installing Quartus and NIOS software from the same Altera web site page, within the same few minutes, I find that the 2 downloaded elements claim to be incompatible with each other.
How could this be ? "Nios II EDS Version Check [!] " "The configured Quartus II [9.1sp2] does not match the current NIOS II EDS version [9.1]. Install and launch an instance of Quartus II version 9.1 bfore continuing. Disable this check by seting the environment variable SKIP_NIOS2_VERSION_MISMATCH_CHECK=1 "Link Copied

Hi Aeneas,
You also need to install the service pack for NIOS II EDS, which can be found at https://www.altera.com/support/software/download/nios2/dnl-nios2.jsp. Don't use the download button but the link below wich says "download service pack". Thats a bit tricky. Filename is 91sp2_nios2eds_windows.exe, which is 13 MB. Good luck, Ton- Mark as New

That seems to have fixed the error message.
By the way, where does one find pricing information for the uninitiated. For the simple application, in which the user designs in embedded processor NIOS, running let's say at 300 MHz, MicroC RTOS, free IP such as FFT, 32 MBytes of Flash. 64 KBytes onboard SRAM. Is there an ADC analog to digital converter and DAC device capability ?What sort of prices would such a FPGA or CPLD require, quantity 1,000 ?- Mark as New
