u-boot fpga driver to handel configuration

I am trying to configure cyclone V fpga (passive serial configuration) using imx6 processor, i am using spi port to download .rbf file from the processor to the fpga under u-boot bootloader, under uboot there is a driver for alter fpga https://github.com/dh-electronics/u-boot-imx6qdl/blob/dev/2013.10_dhcom/drivers/fpga/altera.c, so i am asking if it's possible to use this driver to configure the fpga instead of the low level acces to the SPI port, and if any one have some ideas what functionalities provided by this driver.
