Hi,

I just purchased a Dell Inspiron 5570 Laptop and a Samsung 970 Pro NVMe SSD for it. I'm trying to accelerate the HDD, but when I click accelerate, I got the error

(0xA0050055): An unknown error occurred while an operation was in progress. The operation could not be completed.

I try it again by clicking "accelerated device" in the "Performance" tab, but the same thing happens. I restarted the computer and tried numerous times, but without success. I have been trying to use Intel RST v.15.9.1.1020 because it was installed by the Dell website. I installed the latest RST, that didn't provide me anything to do. I now reinstalled the one on Dell website. I did reboot between each uninstall and install.

What should I do?

Thanks,

Hi berkerpekoz: We will be more than glad to assist you with this matter, thank you very much for providing the file.

The reason why you are seeing that error is because the hard drive acceleration cannot be done using an NVMe drive, it will only work when using a regular SSD.

Please verify the system requirements on the following link:

Any questions, please let me know.

This link may provide additional information: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000026040/memory-and-storage/intel-optane-memory.html Software and Platform Support for Intel Optane Memory.

The ability to use Intel SRT (i.e. accelerate a HDD using an existing SSD) "went away" when support was added for Optane. At the same time, even on older systems without Optane support, it is unclear if you can accelerate a HDD using a NVMe SSD; you may only be able to use a SATA SSD. What Intel needs to do is develop a matrix that defines capabilities against platform and against firmware and software revisions.

Thank you Alberto and N.Scott.Pearson, I appreciate you taking the time and answering my question.

So if this was "made obsolete" in latest versions, is it possible that it might be working in earlier versions of RST? Is it possible to download an earlier version of RST in which this wasn't made obsolete and try? Which version would that be?

Thanks again,

berkerpekoz: You are very welcome. The hard drive acceleration will not work when using an NVMe device, regardless of the Intel® RST version installed.

Just in case, on the following link you will find different versions for the Intel® RST:
