How to increase the size of an extended array

Hi,

I'm using Intel Rapid Storage Technology 17.2.0.1009

My RAID 1 was running out of disk space. I've replaced the disks as explaind in this document:

However once the rebuild was done, I don't see the increase option.

What do I need to do the increase my volume?

Please check under disk management and attach a screenshot showing how the drives show. This is because there is a step within the link you sent me that explains that the drives must be "extended" within disk management to use the whole capacity.

Hello,

Before you can extend the disks in the diskmanagement, you must first extend the disks in the intel rapid storage technology.

And the printscreen from the irst that is in the attachment tell me that there is space to extend the disk, but we don’t have the button

I just checked the steps again and there is no need to extend the disks using Intel ® Rapid Storage Technology, the extend is done via Windows Disk Management, these are the steps Intel recommends for this.

Thank you for your response.

It appears that the step for "extending" the drive within Disk management before rebuilding the RAID 1 was skipped. What we can do now is to break the RAID and extend the drives via Disk management. 

Once the extension has been done, re-build the RAID using the Intel ® Rapid Storage Technology interface, and afterdoing this, you should have a volume with the whole 7TB. 

**IMPORTANT** Before doing what is recommended above, please back up your data to avoid any possible data loss.

Hi David,

we created a test setup, to try the configuration.

I start with 2 4TB disks in a RAID1.

I remove 1 disk and replace the disk with a 8TB disk.

The RAID1 rebuilds.

I remove the second 4TB disk.

I remove the RAID1.

I'm able to extend the disk using windows disk management to the size of the new 8TB disk.

So far everything works just fine.

I would like to add a second 8TB disk an recreate a RAID0, without losing data.

I need to add the second 8TB disk before I can create the RAID0 (which makes sense).

Every time a create a NEW RAID0 volume, all data is gone.

How can I keep the original data?

I have a test setup so I try different options (it takes a while to rebuild so just 1 test a day).
