Intel RST driver version latest vs installed is different, why?

Looking with Intel DSA for new drivers I noticed that the installed driver for Intel Rapid Storage Technology has a 'higher' version number than the 'latest' driver. Why is this?

 

Intel® Rapid Storage Technology (Intel® RST) User Interface and Driver for Intel® 6th/7th Generation Platforms Latest version: 15.9.0.1015 Installed Version: 15.44.0.1010

I have a Acer Swift SF314-56 laptop..

  1. In my opinion the version: 15.9.0.1015 is not the latest version for your laptop. In the Acer site I can see that the latest version is 17.0.0.1072 https://global-download.acer.com/GDFiles/Driver/IRST/IRST_Intel_17.0.0.1072_W10x64_A.zip?acerid=6368... and this is link to the site: https://www.acer.com/ac/en/IL/content/support-product/7812?b=1 . The version release by Acer is also outdated. Intel released already version 17.5.1.1021 https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/28966/Intel-Rapid-Storage-Technology-Intel-RST-User-Interf... . However it is recommended to ask Acer if you can install the latest Intel driver, since can be that Acer is modifying driver to accommodate with their requirements.
  2. Are you using the latest version of Intel DSA? https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/28425/Intel-Driver-Support-Assistant?product=128824
