Hi,
I have a workstation (HP z240) with two disks (RAID-1) and would like, from my application running on the same workstation, to be able to monitor the status of the disks to know (in particular) when there is a disk failure. Therefore, I would like either an API/SDK or CLI to be able to do this. I have been searching, but all I could find were references to a now obsolete CLI (rstcli) that was last available in version 13.2 of the IntelRST drivers (now at v16.0).
So my question is: what options are available to perform this programmatic monitoring ?
Perhaps I can use the old driver (v13.2), but I'm not sure if this fits with my hardware that may need a later driver version. How do I tell ? Where do I get v13.2 with CLI from anyway ?
Thanks.
Richard

Hi Richard Conway, We will be more than glad to assist you with this subject.
In this case, we will do further research to confirm if there are CLI tools available to monitor the status of the disks. As soon as I get any updates, I will provide all the details in this thread.
Any questions, please let me know.
Regards,
Alberto R

Richard Conway, You are very welcome.
I just received an update in regard to the research we were doing on this subject. At this moment, as you mentioned, the latest version of Intel® RST CLI tool that is available for download is version 13.2 that you will find on the link below. Keep in mind that this version will only work with Intel® RST version 13.2 or lower versions.
Currently it is not in the roadmap of Intel to release CLI drivers for newer Intel® RST versions.

In which case, can the older IntelRST driver version (13.2) be used safely on my system - or is there a reason why a later version must be used, e.g. hardware compatibility.
Where can I get version 13.2 of the driver?

Richard

Richard Conway, We recommend to install the latest version of the Intel® RST that is fully compatible with your system.
I looked on HP's web site and I found that the version recommended for your system is 15.5.2.1054, look for "Driver-Storage:" to download it:

intel_corp, Thanks for the driver info - but this recommended driver version (15.5.2) is no use to use the CLI that requires 13.2 !
So it seems I am stuck?
It seems very strange that Intel provides no means to interrogate the status of the RAID. After all, a key point of having RAID is to know when a drive has failed as soon as possible. Am I missing something ?

Richard Conway, You are very welcome.
Correct, the Intel® RST and CLI tools need to have the same version for the applications to work properly. I looked in our web site, currently there are no Intel® RST versions that will be fully compatible with the chipset of your PC and with CLI tools.
On the link below you will be able to download the Intel® RST version 15.8, after installed, you will be able to monitor the disks and the RAID volume from Windows:

As an option, you can always get in contact with HP directly to verify if they might have an Intel® RST version that allows you to use CLI tools as well:

Thanks intel_corp.
Have tried HP also, but have had no 'official' response from them.
Instead will try to exploit the email notification from the RST application.

rconway, You are very welcome.
At this point that will be a good thing to do besides waiting for HP's response.
Any questions, please let me know.
