I had a RAID 1 configuration with two drives and I just added two more drives to create a RAID10 configuration instead (same make/model/capacity/etc...). But this means that two of the drives are older and more used, so I'd like to make sure that each drive pairing for mirrored storage contains one old drive and one new drive. That way if both old drives fail at the same time I still won't lose data. I don't see any option for this, or even information on which drives are paired in the boot-up menu or in the management software. Is this possible? If not through the management software, is it possible through some other method?

Hello ScottyDoesKnow,
Thank you for posting on the Intel® communities. I understand that you are looking for information about how to properly set and identify a RAID 10.
To be able to help you with this request, I will need the following:
1. Run the Intel® System Support Utility (Intel® SSU) to gather more details about the system.
- Download the Intel® SSU and save the application on your computer: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/download/18377/intel-system-support-utility-for-windows.html
- Open the application, check the "Everything" checkbox, and click "Scan" to see the system and device information. The Intel® SSU defaults to the "Summary View" on the output screen following the scan. Click the menu where it says "Summary" to change to "Detailed View".
- To save your scan, click Next and click Save.
2. What is the brand and model name of your drives?
Regards,
Deivid A.

- That seems like a lot of information to be uploading publicly, what sections are relevant here?
- The drives are all Seagate Barracuda Green 2 TB 3.5" 5900 RPM Internal Hard Drive.

Hello ScottyDoesKnow,
Thanks for your patience. In this case, there is no option or feature to choose the drives being assigned to each mirror. Also, bear in mind that moving from RAID 1 to RAID 10 may cause the loss of the information, you will need the create a backup for the information.
If you have any other questions, just let me know.
Best regards,
Deivid A.

Hi Deivid, thanks for the response. Sorry for the delay, and let me know if I need to create a new post for this, but I had one follow-up question. I know I can't control which disks are paired, but is there a way to see which disks are paired?

All HDD come along with a serial number, this is to be used and for a visual identification.
Life is easier when you own a server dedicated computer case, this having dedicated 5.25 Bay for its one HDD.
You may just pull out the HDD from the bay ( from the front face of the case), and easily inspect.
End or, make your own label's of serial number per HDD and stick that in-front of these pull-out bay.
Good quality Medium tower consumer cases for mini server, they do not have pull-out bay.
You need to print several serial number labels, and attach them at the side of the internal 5.25 mounting plate.
Such details they never get written in user manuals.
