What I want to do: Create a drive using a PCIe x16 slot card housing 4 NVME drives + one drive from my motherboard to create a raid 5 drive with 4 drives in the array and one drive (from the MB) as the spare.
What I will have: AMD trx40 chipset, Windows 10.
Issues that I forsee: VROC required? RST software unable to understand AMD MB / CPU? RST unable to mate PCIe slot drives with native NVME drive?
I REALLY don't want to spend 3k+ just to lab this.

If you are going to use an AMD processor on an AMD chipset-based motherboard, you need to be looking at the RAID capabilities that AMD makes available. Intel RST/RSTe/VROC require Intel processors and Intel chipset-based motherboards.
