Windows 10 BSOD - KERNEL_MODE_HEAP_CORRUPTION

Randall1

I was been getting regular BSOD using the latest RST driver.   I downgraded to version 17.9.4.1017 from Asus website as most current driver for my board, but the crashes continue.   What can be done to stop the crashes?

Here is my WinDbg output:

Hello Randall1,

Thank you for posting on the Intel® communities.

In order to better assist you, please provide the following:

1. Run the Intel® System Support Utility (Intel® SSU) to gather more details about the system.

· Download the Intel® SSU and save the application on your computer: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25293/Intel-System-Support-Utility-for-Windows-

· Open the application, check the "Everything" checkbox, and click "Scan" to see the system and device information. The Intel® SSU defaults to the "Summary View" on the output screen following the scan. Click the menu where it says "Summary" to change to "Detailed View".

· To save your scan, click Next and click Save.

2. Provide the Report for Intel® Rapid Storage Technology (Intel® RST):

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000006351/technologies.html

3. Did the issue start, right after the latest Intel® RST driver installation?

4. Can you share or take a picture of the BSOD error code?

5. Have you updated BIOS and Windows?

6. Do you have a RAID configuration?

Best regards,

Deivid A.

1. Report attached

2. The link is not applicable.  Last upgrade required switching to the Optane software which does not appear to have a report option

3. Difficult to say, but seemed to begin after updating RST driver back in November.  I just thought Windows update was rebooting overnight, until the crashes started to happen while I was working

4. Attached

5. Problem existed before and after lasted Bios update.  Problem has existed before and after many windows updates, and 1 re-install

6. Yes, 2 Raid 1 arrays.   WD Red 2TB x 2, AData 500GB  SSD

Hello Randall1,

Thanks for the information provided.

In order to help you further, please try the following:

1. Can you try to roll back to the version that you mentioned that was working fine to check the behavior?

1. Update Windows to the latest version (built 19043).

2. Can you try a clean installation of the Intel® Rapid Storage Technology (Intel® RST) drivers and install the latest one?

Hello Deivid,

1. I do not know what previous version was working.  As I have stated, the problem has been happening for many months.

2. I have continually updated windows and the crashes have happened on every version, why would updating to the latest version help now?

3. All of my drives are in RAID mode, I cannot uninstall the RST driver to make a "clean" install.   The system will not function without a RAID driver...

What have you found from the debug data provided?

Thanks

Hello Deivid,

As stated in the original post, I have already tried the latest driver.   When using it, the crashes happened more frequently, -several times a day.

Hello Randall1,

Based on the research performed, please try the following:

1. clear the Windows registry, the computer will still work, you are just uninstalling the console.

- Steps to uninstall RST, see the RST guide:

https://www.intel.com/content/dam/support/us/en/documents/technologies/intel-rst-installation-and-us...

- Clean the registry:

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000055681/technologies/intel-rapid-storage-...

2. If the previous steps did not work, you may need to perform a clean installation of the operating system.

3. If none of the steps above worked, please contact your motherboard manufacturer for further steps.

Hi Deivid, none of this has been helpful. I’m surprised that you haven’t asked me to turn it off and on. . Perhaps looking at the bug details and fixing the faulty driver would be helpful?

Sure, do you have an upload link?  The dump file is about 2.5GB

Hello Randall1,

We do not have an "upload file", however, have you tried compressing the file?

If you have not, please try the following steps:

- Choose the file>copy file>desktop>paste>send to> ZIP> attach to the post.

Please let me know if you have trouble or if the 2.5GB is the compressed file.

Hello Deivid,

How will I know if an update contains a fix for this issue?

Having the same issue and this thread is extremely underwhelming. You noted correctly that they haven’t asked you to turn it off and on. No real solution here, just the usual blah blah blah.
