Linux kernel is continuously updated however based on this kernel, there comes different flavours of Linux all of which use the same kernel with a little, no or major changes. A few of the famous linux distros are;
Red Hat
Suse
Debian
Slackware
Ubuntu
CentOS
Gentoo
and the list goes on and on.
However the latest stable version of kernel is 2.6.26 as quoted by http://www.kernel.org/ Linux Kernel Archives dated Jul13, 2008 at 22:44 UTC

For a D955xbk intel motherboard, is there anyway to roll back the voltage and memory speed to it's default settings if it was set in the bios and now will not boot ? Removing the battery does not work.

Hello,
Please note, this forum is not ment for TS. However, please check for motherboard LED, RAM beeps, processor fan spin. If they are intact then perform a BIOS recovery.
Download the http://downloadcenter.intel.com/T8Clearance.aspx?sType=&agr=N&ProductID=2070&DwnldID=12688&url=/12688/eng/BK2049P.BIO&PrdMap=&strOSs=38&OSFullName=OS Independent&lang=eng .BIO file. Perform http://downloadmirror.intel.com/12688/ENG/BIOS%20Update%20Readme.pdf Recovery BIOS Update. Please find general steps for BIOS Recovery Update http://www.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/sb/cs-023360.htm here.
Thanks

We are trying to get an answer to a relatively simple question….is the x5450 processor monolithic or MCM?
Where can we get the official spec showing whether it is MCM????

Hi, The Xeon 5400 series processors are based on the Penryn (codename) architecture, a 45nm high-k product. This product is an MCM (multi-chip module) where we manufacture the quad-core CPU using 2 side-by-side 45nm dual-cores in a common package, just like we did with the first generation quad core xeon 5300. Here is a http://www.intel.com/technology/architecture-silicon/45nm-core2/index.htm?iid=tech_micro+45nm website where you can explore more and find access to technical whitepapers on intel.com about pernyn and future architectures.
Now, I have a question for you. Why does MCM vs monolithic matter? Can you explain why you are asking the question as I'm curious.
Thanks, Chris

Thanks for the response concerning MCM vs monolithic.
<Why does MCM vs monolithic matter? Can you explain why you are asking the question as I'm curious.>
We are dealing with an Oracle licensing issue. For Oracle Standard and Oracle Standard One, they have different ways of counting cores/processors. A monolithic processor counts as one processor (regardless of number of cores) whereas a MCM processor counts as 2 processors in this case.

Thanks for the information. I've been aware of many different software licensing practices and policies in the world of multi-core but this is the first time i have heard that the manufacturing implementation has an impact on licensing. Chris

Thanks for your question. You may want to try this page on http://support.intel.com/support/network/adapter/index.htm Network Connectivity. Let us know if you find the driver you needed.

We have only seen the Intel motherboards with SPDIF optical output (TOSLINK), never inputs and we think most of the OEM workstations don't offer digital outputs or inputs. To accomplish your requirements, you may have to buy a workstation and then a discrete audio card such as this one: http://us.creative.com/products/product.asp?category=209&subcategory=669&product=17791&nav=1 Click Here. Thanks for your question and let us know how it turns out.

Thanks for your question. To better answer your questions, could you please inform us the following information:
CPUID, Speed, Cache size, and Stepping of each processor? (i.e. install one at a time into the platform).
This is all displayed in BIOS Setup->Advanced->Processor -> CPU Info.
Also, What BIOS version are you currently using? We look forward to your reply.
