Hello woron,
The expander is transparent to the OS. It works at a hardware level only. Its firmware can be updated but its done through the RAID controller firmware update process.
About the compatibility the RES2SV240 probably won't work with the RSP3GD016J controller (either embedded or hardware attached). The reason is because the RSP3GD016J is a tri-mode controller and the RES2SV240 is a previous gen expander. It does not show up as a supported device for this controller. And even if it could be connected and recognized it will create a bottleneck as the expander has a 6Gb/s bandwidth while the controller is a 12 Gb/s.
The compatible expander for this RAID controller is the following:
Intel® SAS Expander RES3FV288
SAS 3.0 12 Gb/s expander
• Featuring 6Gbps data aggregation for 12Gbps data transfer with 6Gb/s devices
• Low Profile MD2 PCIe* add-in card form factor
• 28 internal ports and 8 external ports
• Power from PCIe x1
• HD Mini-SAS 8643 Connectors
Kit includes: (1) SAS Expander card, (2) HD-HD 250mm Expander-to-RAID card cables, and
PCI brackets for low profile and full height.
For full details you can check https://www.mouser.co.cr/datasheet/2/612/Trimode_Storage_Hardware_User_Guide-1131441.pdf#page=26
Hope it helps

Hello woron,
Thank you for joining the Intel community
The compatibility is more related to the actual system and chassis than the RAID module itself. Could you tell what system board and system chassis are you planning to install the expander at? This is an example for a S2600WF board on a R2000WF chassis: https://www.intel.com/content/dam/support/us/en/documents/server-products/server-boards/S2600WF_Config_Guide_Production.pdf#page=108
I will look forward for your comments

Hello Jose, thanks for the answer!
Now it's getting embarrassing
The RAID controller is built into the GIGABYTE X570 AORUS Pro. But works quite well.
If I understand correctly, the expander must function independently of the operating system. Do compatible expanders exist for RAID RSP3GD016J?

Does an "Intel RES2SV240 24port 6G 6Gbps SATA SAS Expander" fit to RSP3GD016J?

Hello Jose!
Thank you for the great support!
Now I am sure that I will buy the right controller.
I would also like to say that the Intel website is very well structured for the driver search. There are even drivers for older products.
Other hardware manufacturers' websites are a disaster when it comes to finding drivers.
Intel is great!
Best regards
