NAS SS4200-E and defrag utility

Hello all,

I've bought a NAS SS4200-E a month ago. I've hard used it with copy/move/delete files and directories. Right now I've 4 HD 1.5TB in RAID 5 and most of the whole space (~3TB) is used with my DVD rip collection.

Now I found it a little slower than the beginning... There's a way to defragment it? There's a defrag tool provided with the software (EMC)? or exists a software which can defragment it remotely?

thank you a lot.

Nick

I checked the user guide at http://www.intel.com/support/motherboards/server/ss4200-e/sb/CS-028564.htm - no mention of defragging anywhere

The standard ss4200 e uses a linux kernel and file system. Linux file systems do not require defragging so a utility is unnecessary.

If your wondering why, then this gives a good explanation

Hi,

thank you for your reply... but if I don't need the defrag, why the performances of the disks are sooooo decreased?
