Ok, windows update automatically installed new update (3-25-08?). I have a HP duo core desktop. I deleted the driver and guess what, when I rebooted I didn't have any screen. The monitor is a Viewsonic LCD. Can anyone help me retore my screen without loosing all my data. Can I copy a driver into windows?
Thankyou in advance.
Ps. I know it was stupid.Sad smiley [:(]

Turn Computer on and press F8 rather early until you see a menu. Select "safe mode" and boot into this one. This mode uses the VESA graphics modes provided by the video bios of your graphics adapter. Those work even if you main graphics card drivers are messed up. When XP/Vista ist launched invoke System Restore and reset system to last known working state prior to installing driver update. Here's a guide for Vista:

As far as I rememeber you may also invoke sytem restore from Vista Install DVD when inserting this one prior to booting. But this definitely only works for Vista.

If this doesn't work (e.g. because system restore has be disabled, which is in general a bad idea) then try again F8 and boot to safe mode. Go to Device Manger / select graphics adapter / update drivers / select from list / select "generic VGA" or however that mode is called. That's again an unaccelerated compatible driver which allows you booting XP/Vista normal again. Then reinstall working graphics adapter driver.
